Working as a senior member of the Store Systems Management Team, the Director of Software Development is responsible for PCMSs software development strategy for projects and product to meet customer demands, financial budgets, and strategic product plans. Additionally the Director of Software Development is responsible for mentoring, training, career planning and recruiting for the staff of Software Developers as well as the Technical Support Function.
Ownership, definition and implementation of a robust software development strategy to meet company objectives.
Leadership of the software development group, ensuring good communication of company and department strategy and development of best practices within the development area.
Drives the synergy and sharing of best practices, development methodology and standards across all software projects between the US and UK offices.
Partners with the PMO/Quality assurance team, ensuring on time, on budget delivery of projects and product enhancements with a focus on high quality deliveries to customers.
Has a Product focus in expanding the capabilities and features of the PCMS products.
Leadership of the support group ensuring high levels of customer service to existing customers.
Financial management within Software Development, including full P&L responsibility, budgeting, planning and reporting.
Ensuring proper resource assignments on daily and weekly basis to maximize effectiveness and value to company, customers, and individuals.
Working with the Chief Software Architect to drive initiatives for continuous improvement of PCMS development, quality and support methods to improve productivity, quality and efficiencies.
Steering and support for customer projects ensuring that resources and operational needs are met to ensure projects are completed to the agreed time, with high quality and on budget
Resource management of software projects and ensuring that resourcing strategies such as off-shore/outsource development, near shore contractors are in place to meet current and future demands.
Line management across all development and support.
Recruiting new staff into the Software Development and Technical Support teams.
Provides coaching, mentoring and career planning for software development and support teams.
Creating an appropriate working environment for the software development group within PCMS.
Ensure environments and infrastructures are able to support store systems requirements and needs.
Work as part of the companys Operational Management Group, driving initiatives and best practice through the organization.
This is not an exhaustive list of duties and the post holder may be requested to undertake additional duties as required.
Strong Leadership skills with ability to build a forge strong relationships.
Minimum of 8 years experience leading software development teams within a commercial software environment with a strong focus on strategy, financial management and people management.
Proven ability to manage and deliver successful software projects to internal and external clients.
Ability to manage and control multiple, complex and concurrent development streams.
Strong working experience of Agile software development practices and experience of introducing, implementing and developing new ways of working.
Strong product development experience and understanding of the issues in delivering Product based solutions and support requirements to major customers.
Proven customer relationship management skills with excellent presentation skills to senior levels.
Good understanding of the stakeholders within the software development environment.
A change agent experience of moving software development into a world class software house
Experience of managing department budgets.
Experience in resource planning career planning and development of Developers and Technical Support Analysts.
Experience in managing, mentoring and recruiting technical support, software engineers and management personnel.
Operates as a team player and is effective in working with Product development, Strategy and Architecture and the PMO/Quality Assurance Teams.
Develops strong relationships within the US and the UK CTO, Chief Software Architect, Product Management, and Delivery Manager.
